The Central New York Health Information Management Association (CNYHIMA) is a regional component association of the New York Health Information Management Association (NYHIMA) and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). We represent health information professionals across Central New York, including the counties of Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Otsego, Schoharie, Tioga, and Tompkins. Our members are the professionals who manage, analyze, and protect health information — ensuring the accuracy, privacy, and accessibility of data that drives quality care, informed decisions, and better health outcomes.

CNYHIMA is dedicated to advancing excellence in health information management through:

CNYHIMA brings the health information community together throughout Central New York. Membership provides opportunities to:

• Learn & Develop: Participate in educational programs and continuing education opportunities focused on the evolving health information profession.
• Connect Locally: Build relationships with HIM professionals, students, educators, and healthcare organizations throughout Central New York.
• Stay Informed: Learn about emerging issues affecting health information, including privacy, confidentiality, regulatory requirements, legislation, and medicolegal considerations.
• Get Involved: Participate in CNYHIMA committees, programs, meetings, and association activities.
• Develop as a Leader: Eligible Active members can vote, hold elected office, chair committees, and represent CNYHIMA as delegates to NYHIMA.
• Support the Next Generation: Help strengthen the profession by connecting with students and educational programs preparing future HIM professionals.

CNYHIMA represents members who live, work, or study throughout the Central New York region, including:

Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Otsego, Schoharie, Tioga, and Tompkins counties.

Active Membership

Active membership is available to AHIMA Active members in good standing who live or work within the Central New York region and select Central New York as their local association.

Active members in good standing enjoy the full rights and privileges of CNYHIMA membership, including the opportunity to:

• Vote on Association business and elections.
• Hold elected office.
• Serve as a committee chair or committee member.
• Serve as a CNYHIMA delegate to NYHIMA.
• Participate in CNYHIMA business, educational programs, and activities.

Student Membership

Student membership is available to individuals who hold Student membership in AHIMA and NYHIMA and either:

• Are enrolled in an eligible program located within the Central New York region; or
• Reside within the Central New York region while enrolled in a program located elsewhere.

Student members may attend CNYHIMA business and educational meetings without a registration fee. Charges may apply for meals when offered as part of an event.

Student membership is a great way to connect with the local HIM community, learn from working professionals, and begin building a professional network before graduation.

Supporting Membership

Supporting membership is available to individuals who live or work within the Central New York region, have an interest in advancing the purposes of CNYHIMA, and do not otherwise qualify for Active or Student membership.

Supporting members may serve as members of CNYHIMA committees and participate in Association activities. Supporting members do not have voting privileges and may not hold elected office, serve on the Executive Board, or serve as a NYHIMA delegate.

Honorary Membership

Honorary membership recognizes qualifying individuals who have received Honorary membership through AHIMA and NYHIMA and reside within the Central New York region.

Honorary members are exempt from CNYHIMA membership dues. Additional rights and limitations of Honorary membership are established in the CNYHIMA Bylaws.

Annual CNYHIMA membership dues are $10.00 for applicable membership categories and are due by June 30 each year.

The CNYHIMA membership year follows the Association’s fiscal year of July 1 through June 30.

Members whose required dues have not been paid by July 31 may forfeit their membership in accordance with the CNYHIMA Bylaws.
